Bequests

Legacies may be left to the general purposes of the Foundation, in which case they will be used at the discretion of the Trustees, or they may be given for a specific purpose.

Anyone wishing to leave a bequest to the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada is encouraged to obtain the advice of a solicitor.  It is important that the proper title of the Foundation be used in any bequest.  the following clause has been found to be quite satisfactory:
"I give, devise and bequeath to the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada the sum of $               to be used by the Foundation for (general purposes or some specific purpose or to benefit some specific Society) and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorized officer or officers of the said Foundation shall be sufficient discharge therefore."

The Foudation has created a permanent Animal Welfare Capital Trust Fund that can only be invested to produce revenue which will be used for the work of the Foundation.  In this way, a bequest is maintained in perpetuity.

The donor may leave a bequest to the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada Capital Trust Fund for the general purposes of the Foundation or may instruct the Trustees of the Foundation how the revenue from that bequest is to be used.

FOR EXAMPLE:

"I instruct the Trustees of the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada to support the following organizations (list the names of the groups) as long as the Trustees are satisfied that any group or organization so n amed continues to function in accordance with its aims and objects and as long as the Trustees are satisfied that the affairs of the group are being properly managed.  If for any reason the Trustees are of the opinion that a group or organization no longer merits support, I direct that the Trustees of the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada may use the funds for the general purposes of the Foundation."
If you wish to support the work of animal welfare in Canada, or if you have some specific objective that you wish to achieve through your Will, the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada provides a reliable, secure means of acieving those aims.

The Officers and Trustees of the Foundation include people with extensive experience in law, accounting and animal welfare work.

The Officers and Trustees of the Foundation are always ready to provide advice or assitance to anyone who wises to include in their Will a bequest to benefit any phase of animal welfare work in Canada.

Your bequest will assist the Foundation to sponsor and support the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout Canada and, in some cases, internationally.
